"Through Practical Life, Sensorial Exploration, Language, Mathematics, Culture, Art, and Nature, we nurture the whole child—supporting independence, curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning."

It All Begins Here

Our CIRCULUM areas

At Sleeping Giant Child Care Services, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, loved, and connected. Our curriculum is woven naturally throughout the day, following children's interests while providing meaningful opportunities to explore, discover, and grow. Every area of learning is connected, helping children develop confidence, independence, and a true sense of belonging within our community.

  • Practical Life is at the heart of our program. Children love having real responsibilities and meaningful jobs to do. Whether they are helping prepare a snack, watering plants, sweeping up a spill, setting the table, or caring for their classroom, these everyday experiences help build confidence, independence, and pride. We often hear children say, "I can do it myself!"—and that's exactly what we hope for.

  • Children learn about their world through their senses. They touch, smell, listen, observe, and explore everything around them. Through hands-on experiences, children begin to notice details, compare similarities and differences, and make sense of the world in a way that is meaningful to them. We encourage children to slow down, wonder, and truly experience the beauty in everyday discoveries.

  • Language is all around us. It grows through conversations, storytelling, songs, books, dramatic play, and sharing ideas with friends. We believe every child has something important to say, and we work hard to create an environment where children feel heard and valued. Our goal is to nurture a love of communication, books, and self-expression that lasts a lifetime.

  • Children are naturally curious about the world. They ask questions, investigate, experiment, and wonder how things work. We embrace this curiosity by exploring nature, science, geography, different cultures, and the many ways people live and connect around the world. We want children to develop a sense of wonder, respect, and appreciation for both their local community and the wider world.

  • Art is about so much more than creating a finished product. It is about imagination, exploration, and self-expression. Whether children are painting, drawing, building, singing, dancing, or engaging in dramatic play, they are sharing pieces of themselves with the world. We celebrate the creative process and encourage children to express their ideas freely and confidently.

  • Math happens naturally throughout a child's day. It can be found in counting footsteps, sharing materials with friends, measuring ingredients, building towers, noticing patterns, and solving problems. We introduce mathematical concepts in a hands-on and meaningful way, helping children build confidence while discovering that math is all around them.

  • Some of our most meaningful learning happens outdoors. Children are given opportunities to explore, take risks, move their bodies, and connect with nature every day. Whether they are observing insects, digging in the garden, climbing, splashing in puddles, or simply noticing the changing seasons, we believe nature provides endless opportunities for learning, growth, and joy.

  • At the centre of everything we do are relationships. We help children learn how to recognize and express their feelings, solve problems, show kindness, build friendships, and develop empathy for others. We know that when children feel loved, respected, and understood, they are able to thrive. Our goal is to help each child develop the confidence and emotional tools they need to navigate the world around them.

  • Grace and Courtesy is woven into everything we do throughout the day. It is about helping children learn how to be kind, respectful, and thoughtful members of their community. Through everyday interactions, children learn how to greet others, use polite words, take turns, listen when someone is speaking, offer help, resolve conflicts, and show empathy for the feelings of others.

Rather than simply telling children what to do, we model these skills and practice them together in meaningful ways. Whether it is welcoming a friend into the classroom, helping someone who is struggling, waiting patiently for a turn, or using kind words during a disagreement, these moments become valuable learning opportunities.

Our goal is to create a warm and caring environment where children feel safe, respected, and valued. As children develop grace and courtesy, they build confidence in their social interactions, form meaningful relationships, and learn the importance of contributing positively to the community around them. These lessons often become some of the most important skills they carry with them long after they leave our program.
